What this site is

North Coast Saltwater is an independent editorial reference on the saltwater around Prince Rupert, on the north coast of British Columbia. It is written for the angler who fishes these waters and for the reader who is planning a first trip. The site holds four rooms: salmon and groundfish, tides and season, gear and technique, and planning a trip. Each room holds numbered entries, and each entry answers one question.

Who writes it

The desk of North Coast Saltwater writes every entry. The desk reads fishery notices and regulations, tide and current tables, charter and lodge practice on this coast, and the accounts of anglers who fish the Skeena, the Nass, Chatham Sound and the outer coast. Any charter, lodge, marina or supplier is described in the third person.

How an entry is made

An entry begins with one question. The desk gathers the sources, names each source it read, and writes the answer in plain Canadian English. Every entry carries the date it was last checked. When a season, a regulation or a table changes, the entry is checked again and the date is updated. Photographs are generated images made for each plate, and each is captioned as a plate.
